Just Started Reading “Lab 257: The Disturbing Story of the Government’s Secret Plum Island Germ Laboratory”

So I was thumbing through a bookcase at someone’s house today and they had a book I have been wanting to read: “Lab 257: The Disturbing Story of the Government’s Secret Plum Island Germ Laboratory”.  Well, for all of those with Lyme disease, this is a MUST read!  Whoa – I started reading it and can’t put it down.

If you didn’t know, there is a tiny island off the coast of NY called Plum Isalnd – right by the Hamptons (where Lyme disease was first diagnosed) – that houses some of the deadliest germs in the world.  In the book, the author, through declassified government documents, legions of in-depth interviews, and access to Plum Island itself, reveals the connections between the island, Lyme disease, and virus outbreaks, biological meltdowns, and the deadly 1999 West Nile Virus.

This book is downright disturbing, but it’s so good to learn the truth about our government’s role in the spread of certain deadly illnesses – Lyme included.

Sounds like an interesting read. I’m going to read it when I get better. These stories are a little too hard to digest right now.

If there is one thing that I’ve learned on this journey is the eye-opening fact that medicine/helping professionals are NOT really there to help. I have always had a critical mind but I also thought the best of people. I must say I was a little childlike… I didn’t really think that people in medicine would do something to HURT others. Now that I hear all these stories of people in chronic pain, serious illness, etc. I see that that is not the case. From a dentist trying to make money on an un-needed root canal to a surgeon doing un-necessary heart surgery…. I’m both ASTONISHED AND OUTRAGED by the medical community. Before I thought okay here and there there’s someone not doing the right thing… but now it seems like the EXCEPTION is someone who DOES THE RIGHT THING. I searched, and searched, and searched and found a great team of people who are helping on my road to recovery. Even in pain and crazy neurological problems (which really don’t let you think straight) I had to work real hard to make sure that the person on the otherside of the table REALLY was out there for MY BEST INTEREST. I will never understand how one human can hurt another human purposefully ESPECIALLY when they come to him/her specifically to heal. Okay if we were in war… maybe but going to a hospital or clinic your (literally) desperate for health and healing… and you get people who really don’t care. Weird!

I don’t get mad or angry about it anymore… I just think of medicine like architecture, teaching, design, acting, etc. There’s about 5% that are REALLY good… everyone else is sub-par. Our job – “be able to distinguish who those 5% are and have them be part of our team.”

Late Stage Lyme disease/severe Babesia infection has nearly destroyed me and I found NO HELP for years..in fact I was ridiculed by the “TOP” infectious disease specialists…nearly killed by RA drugs..lost most of lungs from fungal pneumonia, in hospital for 2 months!
Finally am finding some real help but not sure I will ever recover and have lost most of a large farm in the process. This situation stinks.
